Community college enrollment nationwide grows

WASHINGTON, D.C. (USANN4)–Enrollment at community colleges is up this semester, and students at those institutions are taking more credit hours.   A new report says those jumps are probably due to increases in the Pell Grant program.   They are making it more affordable for students to add more hours.   The report was presented at the annual meeting of the Council for the Study of Community Colleges.

It finds that community-college enrollment increased by more than 200,000 students from 2008 to 2010.   The total number of Pell Grants during that same time period also grew, by over 388,000.
