Arkansas colleges plan greater efficiency, more graduates

LITTLE ROCK (USANN4)–Leaders in Arkansas have announced goals for improving higher education in that state.   The Chronicle of Higher Education reports that officials at Arkansas’ 11 public universities and two university systems came up with 16 goals.   The hope is that the plan unveiled yesterday will lead to higher graduation rates, greater efficiencies, and economic development.

Goals include doubling the number of residents with college degrees by 2025.   Officials also hope to streamline the credit-hour system so students can transfer seamlessly from one institution to another.

Shuttle bus accident kills UConn student

STORRS, Connecticut — A student was killed on the University of Connecticut campus after being hit by a shuttle bus.   Police say the student, identified as 20-year-old David Plamondon from Massachusetts, was struck by a bus at an intersection.   Paramedics were called to the scene, but were not able to save him.

U-Conn police sid a medical examiner will determine the cause of the student’s death.   They have been interviewing people who saw the accident.   However, no charges have been filed at this time.
