Law require colleges to post crime statistics; Marshall University now under investigation

CHARLESTON, West Virginia (USA News Network4) — The U.S. Department of Education is investigating Marshall University.   The Charleston Gazette reports the agency is probing the West Virginia school’s compliance with the Clery Act.   That is the set of federal laws that requires colleges and universities to be transparent about campus crime.

Under Clery, schools must post detailed crime statistics, release an Annual Security Report on police procedures, and keep a log of incidents reported to campus police.

Marshall is accused of missing a federal deadline to report crime statistics, and not notifying students about a reported gang rape on campus.
